Our garden has grown into a wonderful place to interconnect with nature

Organic seeds, teas and herbs

Our products are the result of this learning process. The seeds offered here have been grown and watched, saved and enjoyed, for many seasons. Our growing area is known as the Puget Trough, located in western Washington state, said to be zone 8, but safer to say zone 7. As you get to know your site, you will find there are micro zones here and there within your garden and around your home. Allowing these to help choose your plants is a big step on the way to having a satisfying, earth friendly garden.

Anyone who loves to garden and cares about the environment should enjoy learning about permaculture. Many will realize that to some extent they are already incorporating permaculture ideas and practices in their own gardens. Observing and interacting with nature in and around our gardens, we are constantly learning. If we are mindfull of what is happening around us we can help our gardens be more beautiful, and in harmony with nature. Meanwhile the garden gives us safe and healthy nutritious food, and a sense of peace, knowing we are doing our part, however small, to care for our earth.

Letting a few plants grow to maturity and self seed is a great way to get to know them, and what your garden can do. You can read seed packet instructions and books, but your plants will tell you best how they can grow for you. You may be surprised to find they have uses you did not expect, such as when your carrots, coriander, beets, arugula and parsley are flowering , and you garden is filled with bees and butterflies, a hum of life so lovely, and a hint of perfume as well. Learning about saving seeds is a must for the sustainable gardener on the path to increasing self-sufficiency.

Composting is another essential for the earth-friendly, self sufficient garden. There are many ways and forms, from casual, to ultimately, spiritual. This only needs to be said to the non-believers: No matter what your style or the size of your space, there is a way. (more elsewhere)

If you are willing to trust nature your garden will grow without the use of any chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and you will feel good. When you see those butterflies and bees, hummingbirds and frogs, ladybugs and lacewings, you will know you have done the right thing. Listen, watch, plant thoughtfully, and they will come to you.
